Krewe of Gambrinus - Galveston, Texas

King Gambrinus XVIII and Queen of the Krewe 2007

Gambrinus King and his Queen!

The King: Jim Huddleston - Jim's wife Cindy got her big wish on her birthday and King's Day - Jim found the baby!

Jim joined the Krewe of Gambrinus 13 years ago and has been a float captain for 10 of those years. The Krewe has provided Jim and his wife -- Cindy -- a great opportunity to meet and mix with like-minded partygoers and develop close friendships along the way. The Krewe is really a full year association. The friendships are really the best part of being part of Gambrinus!

Jim and Cindy have enjoyed living on Galveston's West end for 13 years. They strategically placed their three children and their families in Seattle, Denver, and Houston for great R&R visits to go play.

Jim has been involved in many civic activities, such as member of the Galveston Economic Development Partnership, president of the Lafitte's Cove Property Owners Association, president of the Lafitte's Cove Nature Society, and board member of the Pirates Property Owners Association. Jim is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines as a metallurgical engineer. He has been in an entrepreneurial mode most of his career, starting & selling two successful materials technology companies in the Houston area. He has new businesses in Montreal and Houston and two partner companies in China.

Jim spends his free, fun time -- a rare commodity -- with Krewe activities (partying, etc!), snow boarding, bike riding, fishing and hiking.

As king, Jim plans to stay focused on the Krewe's mantra: Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!

The Queen: Deborah Lowe Thompson - Deborah is turning in her can't-miss showgirl headpieces this year for a crown. A resident of Houston with her husband Bartt, Deborah has been a member of the Krewe for seven years, six years of that as a member of the Royal Court. Deborah is a graduate of the University of Houston and of South Texas College of Law. She finds the Krewe to be a unique diversion from her professional life as a family law attorney assisting clients through difficult, emotional, and trying personal times. Deborah also contributes her time and other resources to a number of charitable organizations that that focus upon cancer research and upon battered women.

When not seen moving from here to there handing out beads, Deborah can be seen enticing others to join in the fun that comes with being a member of the Krewe of Gambrinus. Deborah encourages you to "get ready for some party" and join us in celebrating the spirit, traditions, and magical memories of "The Spirit of New Orleans" this Mardi Gras! Season on the Seawall - and catch those sparkling beads!!
